With a Content Management System (CMS) multiple users can control and edit the content on your website via a web browser.
Our preferred CMS is the open source industry leading system called Joomla! Very powerful, very flexible and expandable. Ease of editing is only the start of the features possible with this system. Create community portals, have customer feedback, run an online shop – its all possible. Your web site can be a communication channel. Use it to create relationships between you, your clients and your suppliers.
Vivid uses the Joomla Content Management System as our default platform for web site construction. It is mature, feature rich, well supported, open source, powerful and extremely customisable. We have built the following sites using this world class content management system.

How does a CMS work?
Text and links to pictures reside in a database. The server builds a fresh web page from the database using customised formatting instructions. Update the database and new information is displayed. Change the database query and different pages can be built. The content in the database is available for the development of flexible, feature rich presentation methods (like shopping carts), and content administration is far easier.
The advantage is the ability to perform sophisticated searches on the database and the ability to create numerous pages based on templated designs. This is the way to create a scalable web site application. Dynamic content means you no longer think in terms of ‘pages’. The site is actually software designed to manage information on the internet.
Dynamic content requires software programming to run on web servers to create web pages out of your raw data. There are three main areas involved;
1. the database, (MySQL)
2. the middle ware (PHP) that operates on the server (Apache) to make requests of the database,
3. the design and creation of the templates that format the data that turn it into an attractive web page.
We use intelligent tools to assist in the deployment of dynamic websites but the initial setup is more involved than a static site. It takes considerable planning to design a sophisticated database and it is extremely important to have it designed so it will anticipate the many ways the information will want to be used. Software development has to include error detection and testing of all of the components to ensure cross platform operability and guarantee the integrity of your data. Installing an established CMS like "Joomla" reduces the setup time and costs dramatically.
The big benefit is content is administered over the internet in your browser via a secure login. Updates are instant and coding skills are not required.
